American Leak Detection of Sacramento is a locally owned, family-operated franchise serving the greater Sacramento area since 1983. We specialize in non-invasive hidden water leak detection and plumbing repair for residential, commercial, and municipal clients across nine Northern California counties.
Our technicians use acoustic listening, thermal imaging, and pressure isolation to pinpoint leaks before anything gets opened, cut, or torn apart. We find the source first. We repair only what needs repairing.

We are a family-owned and operated American Leak Detection franchise proudly serving the greater Sacramento area since 1983. What began as one of the earliest locations in the national network has remained right here in the same community for over four decades. Today the American Leak Detection network has grown to hundreds of locations across North America and beyond, yet our Sacramento office continues to deliver the same trusted, hands-on service that our family has built its reputation on.
In 1983, leak detection was a young trade in California. Pipes were aging out under slabs all over Sacramento and the Valley, and the only honest way to find a leak was to cut concrete and look. We bet that there was a quieter way.
The work started with an ultrasonic listening device and a practiced ear. Today it spans pressure isolation, acoustic listening, and thermal imaging, but the discipline is the same.
We match the repair material to the situation, from modern PEX overhead to copper and PVC where the system calls for it. What hasn’t changed is the order of operations: locate the source, document it in writing, and only then talk about a repair. The order matters because guessing is expensive for everyone in the room.

Philosophy
We rule out before we recommend.
Almost every visit comes down to a question of where, not what. Our qualifying questions on the first phone call usually identify the type of leak, slab, pool, main, or irrigation, which tells us which test you need and exactly what it will cost before we schedule. The work is figuring out where the water is escaping before the first tile, board, or square foot of dirt is moved.
Aging plumbing and shifting Valley soil mean leaks rarely travel alone. But sound and pressure always lead to the largest leak on a line, so each system, house, irrigation, or pool, is tested on its own, and if a second leak is hiding behind the first, it shows itself after the first repair, and we retest.
That is why the first phone call matters: our qualifying questions narrow down which test you actually need, so you are quoted for that test and nothing else. The technician arrives with professional leak detection equipment, and by the time we recommend a repair you have a written report that says, in plain English, where the leak is and how we found it.

- Step 04Recommendation in plain EnglishWe walk you through the report. A direct access repair where the rest of the line has life left in it. A one line bypass or full replacement where the system is past its expected service, with the material matched to the job: PVC or copper for mains, sleeved lines underground, PEX overhead. - Step 05Repair at the spotRepair is performed only at the documented location, with the smallest opening that gets the work done. The American Leak Detection of Sacramento team is highly trained, experienced, and built around one standard: find the leak correctly the first time. From slab leaks and mystery leaks to swimming pool leaks and municipal water system surveys, our technicians have the equipment and expertise to diagnose and repair problems efficiently, without unnecessary destruction to your property.
The Routon family has owned and operated this franchise for over 43 years. Monte Routon started in the business when his father opened this location in 1983, one of the first American Leak Detection franchises in the country. He spent his college summers working for ALD offices throughout Southern California, gaining hands-on field experience across a wide range of leak types and property conditions. In total, Monte brings more than four decades of direct experience in leak detection and plumbing repair. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from California State University, Long Beach.
