We find the leak without breaking the house.
Hidden water leak detection and plumbing repair across 9 Northern California counties. Diagnostic first, non-invasive, since 1983.
Some leaks announce themselves: a burst pipe, a crack in the pool. Most do not. A slow leak can drip under a slab, behind drywall, or below a floor for weeks or months before the first stain shows up on a ceiling or the first spike shows up on a bill.
American Leak Detection of Sacramento has been the Valley’s resource for finding those quiet leaks since 1983. Our technicians serve homeowners, property managers, commercial buildings, and water districts across Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, Sutter, Yuba, Butte, Nevada, and Sierra Counties. We were one of the original American Leak Detection franchises in the country. Today there are hundreds of ALD locations nationwide, but the work hasn’t changed: locate the source first, repair only what needs repairing.
Who is American Leak Detection?
A short commercial overview of the company, the people, and the diagnostic-first work behind American Leak Detection.

The work starts with evidence.
Before a wall is opened or a slab is cut, the system gets isolated, listened to, and tested. The goal is not to make the biggest repair. It is to make the first repair the right one.
- Meter behavior
- Confirm whether water is moving when the property is supposed to be shut down.
- Line tracing
- Follow the system behavior through slab, soil, and finished flooring.
- Moisture clues
- Use surface conditions to narrow the search before opening surfaces.
- Pressure isolation
- Separate systems so the repair starts in the right place.

Signs you may have a hidden leak.
Any one of these can be ordinary. Two or three together usually mean water is escaping somewhere, and the bill or the wall is the only thing telling you about it.
Spot one of these? Don't break drywall, flooring, or concrete yet. Call us first.
- High bill
- An abnormally high water bill, with no change in household usage.
- Soggy soil
- Wet ground in the yard when there has been no rain for days.
- Surface damage
- Moist or discolored drywall, or warped flooring near plumbing.
- Ponding water
- Standing water inside the house or near the exterior line.

What we do before we cut anything.
Aging plumbing and shifting soil mean leaks rarely travel alone. Sound and pressure lead to the largest leak on a line, so each system, house, irrigation, or pool, is tested on its own. If a second leak is hiding behind the first, it shows itself after the first repair and we retest.
Our technicians use professional leak detection equipment and a documented diagnostic sequence to locate the active leak before repair work begins. When the source is found, we walk you through it: direct access repair where the rest of the line has life left, or a one-line bypass or full replacement where the system is at end of life. We match the repair material to the situation, from modern PEX overhead to copper and PVC where the system calls for it.
Your solution begins with a call. A customer service representative will discuss the issue, determine the type of test you need, quote the exact price, and schedule a technician to your location.

Max, Jeremy and Maureen were wonderful. Maureen scheduled a quick appointment to survey and repair the issue. Max and Jeremy were courteous and informative about diagnosing where the leaks were occurring and what the repairs would entail. If you are having a leak or plumbing issue, American Leak Detection is the company to call.

A family-owned office, since 1983.
American Leak Detection of Sacramento was one of the original American Leak Detection franchises in the country. Today there are hundreds across North America and beyond, but this office has stayed family-owned and locally operated for forty-plus years.
